Franklin Pierce University, in partnership with the national search firm Scott Healy & Associates, is pleased to announce a search for the Assistant/Associate Professor or Professor in the Physical Therapy Program with Neuro or Pediatrics expertise. This faculty member reports directly to the Director of the PT program at the Goodyear, AZ campus. The faculty member will teach courses and content within the area of neurological curriculum in accordance with approved course descriptions and syllabi established by the Physical Therapy Faculty Curriculum Committee and administered by the Dean. This may include serving as a lab instructor or teaching modules in courses when not assigned as the primary course instructor. The professor also must demonstrate active engagement in research and dissemination of work that contributes to the profession. Non-teaching assignments include instructional development, academic advising, participating in department, college and university-wide activities, committees and task forces, and other appropriate responsibilities.

About the College of Health and Natural Sciences:

The College of Health and Natural Sciences (COHNS) is one the newest colleges for the university, established in 2019. It was created by the joining of the undergraduate programs in the sciences to the graduate programs in health-related fields. The degrees offered include: Biology, Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, and Health Sciences at the undergraduate level and Doctor of Physical Therapy (twin independently accredited programs in NH and AZ), Master of Physician Assistant Studies, and Master of Science in Nursing. The nursing programs are part of the School of Nursing that reports to the new college and includes a RN to BSN online program.

About the greater Phoenix, AZ community:

In 2008, Franklin Pierce University’s Goodyear, Arizona campus became the first private postsecondary education institution in the city. The campus is located in a fast-growing suburb and is only half an hour away from internship and career opportunities in Phoenix. Currently the only program offered at our Goodyear location is our Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. Goodyear’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program attracts students from across the country. Our facility features two classrooms, two labs, and an off-campus anatomy lab.

The Professor in the PT Department’s Responsibilities:

Instructional:

  • Teaches courses and content within neurological curriculum as assigned by the Program Director in accordance with the approved syllabus, Graduate Faculty Protocol, and established workload.
  • Updates and revises course content and teaching methodology in order to maintain currency and relevance.
  • Maintains familiarity with current texts, materials, teaching aids and techniques relative to courses within the discipline and recommend their adoption when appropriate.
  • Actively seeks ways to improve instruction.

Academic Advising:

  • Posts and observes office hours for purposes of academic advising and student consultation. Hold office hours at times that are most convenient for students. Meet with students as needed by appointment.

Departmental Activity:

  • Actively participates in curriculum planning and assessment.
  • Actively serves in assigned committees and CAPTE processes.
  • Actively participates in recruitment and admission activities.

Professional Growth and Development:

  • Maintains a program of personal and professional development for areas of responsibility.
  • Maintains state-of-the-art knowledge and competence in the appropriate academic disciplines.
  • Maintains specialty certification.
  • In accordance with CAPTE standards, each faculty member shall be actively engaged in scholarly work that would enhance the program and the University’s mission. 

Community and Professional Service

  • Serves as a role model with respect to community service and service to the profession.
  • Engages in the APTA and other professional organizations.
  • Engages students and faculty in student service activities.

Institutional Service:

  • Actively participates in assisting the College in maintaining standards required for regional accreditation.
  • Participates in full regalia in official graduation ceremonies.
  • Attends other official functions, College of Health and Natural Sciences (CHNS) Reception, and orientation/faculty development events as required in the Graduate Faculty Protocol.
  • Volunteers to serve on and participate in university task forces and committees.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Meets requirements articulated in the Graduate Faculty Protocol.

Expectations:

  • Demonstrate commitment to our academic programs of excellence within a multi-campus university serving a variety of adult graduate students.
  • Possess extensive knowledge of neurologic physical therapy techniques and practices and have a thorough knowledge of instructional and educational methods and techniques.
  • Maintain physical therapy licensure in the state of New Hampshire and APTA membership.
  • Ability to design and conduct independent or collaborative research in clinical education or related areas.
  • Ability to develop learning strategies that will promote successful teaching in a learning-centered environment.
  • Ability to challenge thinking, foster debate and develop the ability of students to engage in critical discourse and rational thinking. Professional commitment to education.
  • Exemplary customer skills, including dealing effectively with the students, faculty, staff, and general public in person, online and over the telephone.  Maintain professionalism when dealing with all staff and other customers. Demonstrate understanding and sensitivity to the needs of all prospective as well as current students.
  • Excellent writing skills and demonstrated ability to develop written reports and action plans.
  • Have knowledge of, ability to develop, and commitment to use emerging technologies and alternative instructional delivery methods appropriately, including on-line delivery, hybrid course options, content software, web-enhancements, etc.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of organizational behavior and actively engage in organizational planning.
  • Document student advising and mentoring skills.
  • Attend Department and College Faculty meetings and other University sponsored events.
  • Engage collaboratively in departmental and organizational planning.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures established by Franklin Pierce University.

Qualifications:

  • Possess an academic doctoral degree (Ph.D., Ed.D, D.Sc.);
  • Incumbents without a terminal degree will be considered provided they are enrolled in or preferably in the dissertation phase of an advanced doctoral degree upon hire;
  • Previous teaching experience and an established record of scholarship;
  • Licensed or eligible to obtain licensure in AZ within 90 days of hire;
  • A minimum of five years of clinical experience.
